Asking for donations can be awkward and uncomfortable at first, but you will be surprised by the response you get from people who have been affected by obesity and who want to support you. All you have to do is ask, and keep in mind that the money raised helps others affected by obesity.
Tell Your Story
Start by sharing your story and the impact obesity has had on your life, or the life of someone you love. Personalizing your United We Step Challenge fundraising page with a picture and message will show your passion for this cause and will inspire others to show their support too.
Send an Email or Letter
After you have customized your page, send an email or letter to your family, friends, and colleagues asking them to consider making a donation to help you reach your fundraising goal. You can send emails directly from the event dashboard using the template emails we have provided, or write your own.
Reach out to your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and LinkedIn connections. Not everyone sees every post, so get your message out there at least once a week, and especially on the challenge day. Don’t forget to share why you are participating in the challenge and always include a link back to your fundraising page. Check out our sample social media posts linked below.
Social media is also a great way to give updates on your progress and challenge others to participate. Also consider thanking your donors publicly for their support!
Ask Your Community
Don’t forget to ask vendors in your area for support, like your local grocer, doctor, hair stylist, or mechanic. Professionals and companies often give large amounts and can help you achieve your fundraising goal quicker.
With these fundraising tips you are on your way to helping fund critical obesity research, professional education programs, and important access to care incentives. Your hard work truly makes a difference to those affected by obesity, and we thank you so much!
