The need to "get back on track” and combat the disease of obesity has never been greater!
As the ASMBS Foundation celebrates its 25th year, our work and your donations to further our mission have never been more urgently needed. Obesity is the most enduring public health threat facing Americans. While the obesity rate in the U.S. has reached an all-time high, utilization of the most effective evidence-based treatments, including metabolic and bariatric surgery, remains stubbornly low due to clinical, research, economic, social, and policy barriers that unnecessarily deny or restrict access of proven treatments for obesity. Last year, the ASMBS Foundation committed to include funding for a research grant to better understand postoperative care such as weight regain. That funding has been awarded and research is underway. But there is still work to be done! That’s why we invite you to participate in this year's virtual National Walk from Obesity Day!
To participate in the virtual Walk simply register online for FREE, then walk when and where you want on Saturday, November 5th. Share your Walk on social media that day by using the tag #NationalWFODay and @WalkfromObesity! It’s that simple! Leading up to Walk Day, ask friends, family, and colleagues to support your fundraising efforts for the virtual Walk. Fundraising is not required, but is needed to support our mission.
I want to thank you in advance for your participation and fundraising efforts to support our important cause. The work we do is dependent on the support we get from patients, healthcare professionals, and community members who want to make a difference for the cause of obesity treatment and prevention.
Carl Pesta, DO, FASMBS
ASMBS Foundation President
Online registration is FREE and will be available until Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST. Please click "Register Now!" and follow the prompts to register online. Since this is a virtual event, registration is only available online. You will have the option to register as an individual, start a team, or join a team.
You will also be asked to set a fundraising goal. Fundraising is not required but is strongly encouraged. Also, don't forget to include your preferred t-shirt size and shipping information in case you qualify for our fundraising prizes.
By starting a team when you register, you will be the designated captain of that team. You will choose the team name and mangage your team's online fundraising page. On that page you may share why your team is participating, upload photos, or a company logo. Please encourage your team to participate through fundraising and by posting their walk on social media on November 5th.
When starting a team, please choose the category that best describes your team when registering. Categories include:|
Healthcare - hospital, practice, etc.
Corporate - for-profit business
ASMBS State Chapter
General - friends, family, group, etc.
Nonprofit - school, church, 501c3, etc.
If you have questions about starting a team, please contact us at [email protected].
Note: Online pages may not be used to directly sell products or services. You may provide a company description or overview.
All participants will automatically receive an online participant/fundraising page. You may use this page to fundraise and/or share your story of why you are participating in #NationalWFODay. Please utilize our online fundraising tools to help meet your goal and/or to invite family and friends to join you in the virtual Walk. You may also sync your participant fundraising page with Facebook, creating a Facebook Fundraiser. Please take advantage of this great tool, as it's the easiest way to ask your friends and family to support your efforts!
All participants (individuals and team members) can win fundraising prizes and receive achievement badges on their online participant page. If you are part of a team, your individual fundraising efforts will automatically count towards your team's fundraising goal as well.
Fundraising Prizes - All prizes will be mailed after the fundraising deadline of 11/12, unless you qualify for our Early Bird promotion! If you fundraise $100 by 10/16, you will receive your shirt and drawstring bag before Walk day! Also, the Top Individual Fundraiser will receive a prize package that includes a year supply of vitamins (from Bariatric Fusion), a $250 gift card for fitness equipment, and more! See below for all the details.
Check out our Resource Center for fundraising tips, social media graphics, and more!
Prize eligibility is based on individual efforts only. "Team Donations" will not count towards any individual's efforts.
The top fundraising team across ALL categories will be deemed the National WFO Day Fundraising Champions and the President's Cup Trophy will be awarded to the team captain on behalf of the team!
*Each team's fundraising is independent of each other. Multiple teams may NOT combine their fundraising dollars to qualify for the category recognition or for the President's Cup Trophy. In order for any individual's fundraising dollars to count towards a team's goal, the individual must be a registered member of that team.
